Pet Insurance is usually available for the two commonest of pets, namely cats and dogs. Some specialized Insurance providers, however, arrange special insurance for horses and other exotic animals.

About 80-90% of the medical expenses are pledged to the policyholders by the Pet Insurance policies. Of course, they do charge a variable deductible, which can be anything between US$ 50 and US$ 100.

The most commonly agreed condition requires the pet-owner to settle the medical bill and then forward his claim form to the Insurer, who then reimburses the amount. However, in rare cases, say when the bill is very high, the Vet and the Pet-owner may reach an agreement, which allows the latter to pay the Vet only after the claim is processed.
